I think as we find ourselves caring for our elderly parents we need to first never under estimate the power of good old common sense and next arm ourselves with as much knowledge pertinate to each issue or situation as possible. Most of all it is not a sin to question as most doctors would have you believe.Be pro-active, be involved, be persistent, be informed, be observant, be both analytical and empathetic never assume that the medical profession is 100% right in their diagnosis or treatment. Trust your gut feelings then back it up with fact if you feel that the prescribed medication or treatment for your elderly parent is not either making the situation better or if it is in fact making it worse. This may not make you the most liked person but it will make you a better more responsible child that is in charge of caring for their elderly parent.
